Even when not on battery power, this UPS continuously emits a 60 hum from its E laminated power transformer (non-toroidal). While it would be quiet enough to go into an equipment stack OUTSIDE of the viewing room, it is too audible for placement within about 20 feet of viewer seating. I'd use this ONLY if your stack is sound isolated. Within the viewing room, it was distracting even with a projector cooling fan running.

Unfortunately, when I plugged in the unit and once the load was turned on, it started humming loudly and the metal cover on top even started vibrating, thus making even more noise. After doing some online research, this unit seemed to have the features I needed, was a good value and had a sleek appearance. Also, the overall rating was good so I took a chance. I see other reviewers also commented on similar issues, perhaps there is a bad batch of these out there. The noise coupled with the weak output power left me very disappointed, I expected a much better product from Belkin.Thank goodness for Amazon's no-hassle return policy.
Since I just bought a new HD Plasma TV 55", I thought this would be good as a battery backup, because I didn't find many other products for this task, as it turns out, the TV by it self almost maxes out the battery protection, so I can't connect other devices other than the TV.So I don't see how this would be a solution for a home theater where you would have to connect at least 4 other devices, besides your TV
While I would have preferred a digital display, the analog display is retro/old school looking and looks good in the rack. I've had this a year now, and I have not experienced the problems others have expressed about it arriving dead or the device making buzzing noises. As far as functionality, I have all the back up plugs connected, and the device does allow for ample time to back up computer files when the power goes off. I live in an area with brown outs, and I lose power a lot during inclement weather. I purchased this unit to safeguard my 52" Sony KDR Bravia LCD flat screen (I bought the Bravia on Amazon for a great price), and I believe the Belkin PureAV has already paid for itself. When the flat screen is on the back up supply, and the power goes off, it can power this monster for about 20 minutes when all other devices depending on the back up are turned off. I thought it would power it longer, but as long as it maintains power during brown outs (low voltage drops) and protects my equipment from surges/power spikes, I'm happy; and this unit does the job.
